Are you bidding?   It has red telephones!

LOL

The wife says no.

So I am now researching crowd funding.

Am I confused on this? The BBC web site says:

"The States-owned site in the Castel was built as a telephone switch-room and manager's residence in June 1906 and became a communications museum in 1976.

In 2011 the States closed the loss-making museum with the exhibits removed and put into storage.

The site is being sold as part of a wider move to reduce the island government's property portfolio in a bid to save money.

which seems to say the site, the building only, is being sold, not the contents that were put into storage. Seems to say the exhibits are not part of the sale. Am I wrong in reading that into the sale?

Matilo Telephones

You are right Teleplay, it is only the building.

The title suggests it is a whole museum, but the collection is put in storage elsewhere. Also there is a picture of the collection when it was still in the museum which adds to the suggestion that the sale includes the collection.

Seems like a lot of money for what is pictured, even if the inventory is included.
$900,985.25 US Dollars.

Guernsey property prices can be high - a 2/3 bedroom detached house (nice, but not large) can be over a million. Planning permission for 2 x 2-bedroom houses has already been granted on the site.

Matilo Telephones

Yes and it is the switching room together with the managers residence. So it is 2 buildings, perhaps.

Tried to find it on google earth and streetview for a better look, but could not find it.

For the money that place is being sold for, you could probably buy the entire village I live in...

I looked but also could not find it. However, on their current museum site, I found this posted:

"Guernsey Telephone Collection

The Guernsey Telephone Museum is now closed but its collection has been retained and selected objects have been put on display at other museums."

Also read somewhere that they acquired a million pounds just to upgrade some place to store the phone items. That was in one of the related news stories reported around the time they closed the museum. Seems they are not going to part with those red phones . . .  ;)

Sounds like a government run operation!

Get a million pounds to store the museum contents away out of site so that the museums original building can be sold for half a million pounds.....TO SAVE MONEY!
