Here is a very scarce WE phone.  ISTR it also came in chrome and black. It went cheap (in my opinion).

eBay description:  "Up for sale is a Western Electric Patio Phone,  a unique phone that you could set up outside when you are entertaining, (it still requires a phone cord)  this is not cordless.  Does it work ?  I honestly dont know, I have not had a land line in years.. but it's cool to look at , had this in my living room for years.  Stands 28" tall by about 12" square.  Painted red, and metal is gold plated.  The gold plating is a bit oxidized, I spent a few minutes with some Never Dull and it did start to polish up nicely."

I added three of the pictures for posterity. It looks to have a replaced handset and coil cord since the logo indicates a later model handset. Also an incorrect modular number card. I think it went to the museum, so hopefully those defects will be corrected.

Weren't these available in the 1950s? Also it seems like Michigan seems to be the place they're most commonly found, isn't it? Dennis, do you recall seeing others from Michigan? They don't come along very often.

The only place I can find it on Paul's site is something about a Disneyland House of Tomorrow in 1958.

That came from just a couple of miles from here.

I'm reasonably certain that this was one of several models produced by Michigan Bell before the Bell System centralized this kind of creative activity in Indianapolis. I have some incoming files to process when time permits. I'm waiting for some documentation to surface before posting.

Wow, that is so neat!

That would be great to have when sitting outside in great weather.

Does anyone have pictures of the guts?

Amazing!

Thanks Paul!

Did this phone have a ringer? I can't seem to locate it.
