I have been toying with the idea of C*Net. I have used asterisk for many years now, and am well versed in rotary phones and VoIP.

I know there are Purists here and think I want to bastardize it, but here goes.

I am thinking of offering a C*Net node that would be unique in the following ways:

1) Access via SipBroker to all peers by way of standard dial plan, as well as rotary compatible dialing. http://sipbroker.com
2) Access to your custom Google Voice account by way of Simonics Google Voice Gateway for incoming and outgoing calls. https://simonics.com/gw/
3) Direct dialing to C*Net
4) GV911 http://www.gv911.com/
5) open Inbound SIP URI
6) (anything else I might add?)

I would do this probably at a low monthly fee or donation basis, only to offset costs. Many users might save money by using Google voice and GV911 instead of MagicJack or Vonage.

I was wondering what kind of interest there might be, and if there is, if anyone may offer up some custom coding assistance to help create a portal. where a user could enter their Google Voice Gateway Credentials, GV911 redirects (for those devices that do not support it), and create the extensions and ring destinations required. For instance they could create 4 extensions 101 - 104 and Have C*net ring to 103 and Google voice ring all.

I would like to hear comments on this. No purist bashing please.

Thanks

Mark

I have no idea what all that means but I do have a Google voice number that I rarely use. If I could get my Panasonic PBX hooked up easily and simply to use that number I may be interested.

I couldn't exactly follow all this but this sounds like it has potential. I have a Google Voice number associated with an old number that I just use as a voicemail number. Occasionally, I use it to make calls on the computer but I hate talking on the computer and prefer using real vintage phones.

Sounds like you have a good idea here. If people don't like this, they can simply not use it.

Can you provide easier to follow examples of how this would work? It sounds like you're trying to make a landline-replacement, just like MagicJack or Vonage (GV911 keyed me in on that). Personally, I don't expect to be able to call 911 if I'm not using a real landline anyways, and people can easily just dial the police department directly, so I'm not sure how necessary this is. Some people still have to call 0 in an emergency, or dial the police department, because 911 is not available in their area. So I wouldn't assign that much importance to being able to call 911, but that's just me.

You can already use Google Voice and GV911 as a replacement of Vonage or MagicJack Many Just do not know how.

I thought I posted a tread about this a while back but do not find it. SO HERE IS A nEW THREAD WITH THESE DATAILS:

Definitely not in any way interested!

C*net is supposed to be a VINTAGE system. If you want to play at modrrn telecoms then you should set up your own VOIP system. Also C*net should remain free for all users. That is how it was conceived and how it should stay. To charge for any type of access would bring C*net into breach of various UK OfCom regulations which apply to commercial VOIP providers. Currently C*net circumvents these because it is not regarded as a commercial VOIP provider because it does not charge for either connection or use.

As one of around 20 UK operators of C*net servers I always take action to block any numbers suspected of being provided on a paid for basis So before anyone takes out any kind of paid subscription to C*net I feel they should know a large percentage of it could well be undialable.

Any genuine vintage telephone collectors wanting to connect to C*net can contact me at any time and I will be happy to help them arrange free connection to the network at any time for non-commercial purposes.

Call me on C*net 0246 81 290 from the UK
or (+44) 246 81 290 from the rest of the world.

For telephone videos search Andys Shed on Youtube.

I'm not sure why you are posting this thread here, rather than on the C*NET website.
