Sidetone Differences On My 500's

Interesting reading.  I do happen to be at the very edge of the area served by my switching office.  Neighbors to one side and behind me are served out of the office in the next town.  So there is a bit of a distance factor but as the crow flies I think I'm not much more than a mile from my switch.

But if I read things correctly, the network/circuitry automatically compensate for the amount of current being received.  So if I'm receiving more current due to distance from the switch, it would seem that the network isn't toning things down, so to speak.

Again, this isn't really an annoying situation but is noticeable when all other phones I use in the house have good sidetone control.   This phone is in the den.  I have 500's in other rooms and for practical purposes I want to place a 2500 in the den when I find the right one.  So the phone with the sidetone issue will be changed out at some point.

Thanks again for the input.

All that stuff is, is a dielectric to prevent shorts, and to keep out moisture.
Now they use a semi clear silcone gel dielectirc.. Nothing dangerous.
You can buy the stuff in tubes at auto parts stores, or electronics stores like Fryes.
