Quotei am still a kid so no memoreies yet check back in about 20 years

Don't feel bad Kenny, in 25 years you will be fondly remembering your youth in the early 21st century and all the cultural influences of the time period that will be ancient history like:

The Transformers movies
Star Wars:  The Clone Wars
Extreme Makeover Home Edition
Rap music
iPhones
Twitter
CSI
Jay Leno on the Tonight Show
David Tennant as Dr. Who  (for our UK folks)
Daniel Craig as James Bond
Gasoline at only 3 bucks a gallon
Computers as separate devices that sat on a desk

I still think of Carson as the Tonight Show, and he's been gone what, 20 years?

Dan/Panther

How about Steve Allen on the tonight show, or Jack Parr, or Johnny Carson ???

"Comic books, and, rubber bands, climbing to the treetop.
Falling down, and, holding hands, trycicles, and, red pop.
Pony rides on Sunday night, roller skates, and, yo, yos.
Fairy tales, and, snow ball fights. Climbin' through the window.
Remember when you were a kid? Well, part of you still is...
And, that's why we make Faygo....
Faygo remembers.... Faygo remembers........"

Johnny Carson & Ed McMahon are still my all time favorite late night talk guys. Wish they would show reruns of them! Apparently there are Johnny Carson Tonight Show DVD's available.

You're very welcome!  I started thinking of this song when I was going through the posts.  Thought it was very fitting.

I've got the video set of Johnny's favorites I found at a garage sale, I'm sure you can get the DVD's online somewhere.

They should have just canceled the Tonight Show after Johnny left.  I never much cared for Leno, he was always a mediocre comedian and didn't put much effort into the show.  But then, anybody in that slot would have had a very tough act to follow.
The idea that a four-year degree is the only path to worthwhile knowledge is insane.

Johnny used to have guest hosts when he had time off where as ever since Johnny left they just throw in reruns when Jay is off for a day or a week. I find that surprising considering that Jay originally got quite a bit of time on the Tonight Show as a guest host.

If they are going to show a rerun I wish they would at least start the show giving the original date this episode aired. I'm sure I recall them doing that in the past at some point but not for quite awhile now. It is up to the viewers to realize that it is a rerun (usually doesn't take long due to the monolog poking fun at real news events) and then spend the rest of the show guessing at the original date.

Bill,

Oh no, you are a "eastsider".......

Us westsiders, Edgewater Park, Walled Lake Amusement Park, the Walled Lake Casino, Lee Alan "on the horn", WXYZ, WKNR, Wrigley Markets, Detroit (Sunday,Sunday) Dragway, Motor City Dragway.....

I could go on for hours, driving up north in my 5 year old 1964 Mercury Park Lane convertible, WTAC blasting on the AM radio, pretty bad a** for 16 at the time.

Kid years were good, but when the teen years hit....better. Club 1270, remember the special
teen shows that were on during the '67 riot?

Bill Cahill

I think I remember vaguely hearing about them, but was never to any.
Yeh. I guess Harper Woods is next to East Detroit.
But, I do remember the ads for the speedway races....
Remember Hudson's parades?
Our favorite listenning stations were CKLW, and, WJR, with an occasional WXYZ for good measure.
Back then, the four tv stations were plenty enough to watck.
As you know we had WJBK tv 2 Detroit,a CBS affiliate,WWJ tv 4, which was NBC,
WXYZ tv Detroit, which was ABC, and, then, CKLW, channel 9, Which was CBC Canada.

CKLW TV, Bill Kennedy Showtime, Mary Morgan, both movie hosts. Bil Kennedy was an actor (bad by his accounts) turned host. Rita Bell's Prize Movie on WXYZ.

Swingin' Time, a teen dance and rock and roll show hosted by Robin Seymour. forget what channel had that on.

Toby David on CKLW TV as Capt. Jolly. Heard he was quite the hell raiser and of the air DID swear like a sailor.......

Shopping at Federal's or Montgomery Ward's at Grand River and Greenfield in Detroit.

Saturday trips from Farmington Township to my dad's work at Lyndon & Indiana. Pizza at the Red Devil on Fenkell. Occasionally to the east side, Italian markets and bakeries, my mother would occasionally go shopping there.

Bill, you're next up...

And with the eastsider comment, anyone EAST of Woodward was on the other side of the world, at lest until the "expressway to nowhere" was opened.

For you people scratching your head about that remark, let me explain:
in about 1957 a east-west freeway, to stretch from Novi to I-94 was proposed.
Michigan was on a freeway building binge around here. Anyway, planing started. I-696, the first leg was put in at Novi in 1963. I remember riding my bike on the newly poured concrete at Halsted Road back then.

Anyway, parts were built, but a significant part was held up by various lawsuits through some of the suburbs, Oak Park, Huntington Woods, Warren, over right of ways.

The section through Southfield was built, but unused due to the lawsuits. So it was dirt bermed off just east of Telegraph Road. Newspapers coined that term for it.

This languished for years, until about 1989 0r 1990. Finally the battles ended or were settled. The road was finished, designated I-696. Over forty years to completion, A MDOT spokesperson made the comment that there were engineers that worked on that project that retired, spending their whole career on it.
