My fiance and I were in an antique shop in Clare Michigan, we saw a nice priced 500 set, I flipped it to look at the date. 6-66 needless to say we did not buy it for obvious reasons.
Unless the price was too high, I don't see why not.

I saw a black WE 500 on ebay last week with the same date.
I think the obvious reason is exactly why I would have bought it!

I'd also have bought it for the sheer novelty of it being "The devil's phone"... ;D
If I had a choice I'd wait for another phone.

My National Insurance number (equiv. to US' Social Security I think) has 66-6x in the string of letters & numbers, so it's a set of numbers I can't escape... ;D
I had to google that 666 deal, it isn't well-known here in Germany. I would have taken it :-)
