Hi Larry. As regards me I don't buy illegal parts or false reproductions even if I am Canadian.. .je still prefer the original for a phone, TV or antique radio or even wristwatches... Now I collect that wristwatches and phones because the rest has become too expensive to buy and the shipping is overpriced... ;)
Larry was only joking. WEs and NEs hooks were identical and made to the same specifications. So, though we don't know for sure who made the one he is sending, WE or NE, it is the correct part and designed for this specific 143 switch. It is not a reproduction - the one shown in my sample photo is (the one with the holes in the ears). It was the only photo I could find which showed the profile of the hook well.

I am sorry.  My bad joke was about the Canadian government's paranoia about certain types of items being imported and suggesting that they may be nervous about phone parts as well.  I know people who have had various items confiscated or severely taxed by the CBSA at the border.

I sure hope that the hook will arrive.  I am concerned that the USPS is not showing that the package was picked up even though the letter carrier took it early Friday afternoon.

Wait till you guys see how well this phone has turned out. I showed you a photo of the inside the other day, and as soon as the new switch-hook arrives, I will take another photo with the door closed.

The phone's finish was in excellent shape, As I would rather maintain the finish if in good shape, today, I tackled the lime green latex paint around the edges where careless wall painting had overlapped onto the phone. I did this carefully so I wouldn't have to re-stain the phone - by very carefully scraping it off without digging into the wood, then final sanding with .0001 steel wool, I got it off while maintaining the wood colour (I always debate how to spell colour - I am Canadian, so I am spelling it our way)

Finally, I oiled the finish of the phone with the end result, that it is the nicest 1317 I have, and how suitable, as it is the oldest one I have featuring the early long transmitter mount, picture frame front,  and the through the hinge wiring which was eliminated in later production.

So I am very pleased. The hook has gone through customs, so should be here some time early next week. As soon as I have it on, I will take another ptoto of the phone's exterior!

Great phone for $20 (plus $10 + shipping for the hook - thanks, Larry!)!

I actually have a NE 293 parts phone that has a hook, if having a US hook keeps you awake at night LMK.

I don't think I will lose too much sleep over it. Besides, we aren't really sure it is a US hook :)

Very Nice!  The phone looks much happier now having the proper hook.  So is the hook WE or NE?

Its NE now... I know of no way to tell the difference - both have the same part number in the catalogues, and both are unlabelled, so it is anyone's guess. perfect fit - just dropped it back in the original switch and popped the pin in. Anyone who wants the Kellogg switch that he started to put in it can have it for $10 plus cost of postage.
