princess phone not ringing

I recently obtained this Princess phone at an antique store. It came with a 4 conductor cord attached with spade connectors on both ends and all conductors are gray in color. 2 leads went to L1 and L2 and the other two appear to go to the lamp in the phone. I got a spade to modular cord and unwired the gray wires from L1 and L2 and put green and red wires of the new cord on L1 and L2. The phone now gets dial tone and can make calls. It can also receive calls ok, but it will not ring. I thought maybe the ringer wires were misplaced but after reading the forums it seems that mine are ok. The red goes to K and the black goes to L1. There are 2 other ringer wires that are not used and plastic sleeves over the spades, but again this seems correct. Is there something I am missing? thanks

It looks like I have an open in the ringer coil. I have continuity between R and S-R and between R and S, but open between B and any of the others. I thought about trying one of the unused leads instead of black but I read somewhere that those are for party lines. Are these ringers still available? My ringer is dated 1965.

Sounds like it's wired up right to me, so i think your diagnosis ofa break in the coil is correct. It might end up being a re-wind job.

This seller has a few Princess bases complete with ringers and you could send him a message asking if he would sell just the ringer. He says other parts are available and to ask. Your only hope is to obtain the ringer from a parts phone or try to fix the coil, and a parts phone is a whole lot easier. The seller may even be able to test the ringer for you to make sure it works. Good luck!

Red to Slate-Red = approx 2400 Ohms
Slate Red to Slate = ~1650 Ohms
Slate to Black = 1000 Ohms

So Red to Black  = ~4650 5050 ohms, and  Red to Slate = ~3650 4050 Ohms. It may work just using the red and slate, and not using slate-red or black. (Connect Black SLATE to L1 and Red to K.)

Otherwise I can send you an M1A ringer.

Thank you for that suggestion, I will give that a try.

I tried replacing the black with the grey wire and still no ring. :(

Would the ringer work if it were wired like a C4A on a 500? Just a thought.

Dial Guy Steve  Hilsz just listed some mini ringers that should fit in this princess phone:

His message is below

I just unloaded some new old stock straight-line mini-ringers made by Comdial. Their part number is 21WA1. They are in individual little cardboard boxes. The price is $2.50 plus postage.

I want to thank poplar1 for his very kind gesture of mailing me a ringer for this phone. It works great now. Thanks again.
