How do you deposit pennies (1 cent)?

The instruction card says to deposit one cent when the operator requests it. This is a 1914 tax on "messages" costing 15 cents or more.
So how do you deposit pennies?

My guess is that all coins go into the coin vault, regardless of denomination, and that there is no coin return and no relay.

What sound does a penny make ?

Attached is a scan covering the 1 cent World War I tax.
Read the first sentence after 'Note'.
The operator heard a 'clunk' when the penny fell out of the coin track and followed the path toward the sealed return chute.
The penny falling out of the coin track made a lot of noise.
The penny never made it to the coin relay.

Poplar, would it be possible for you to make a high resolution scan of that card and post it to the forum.
