Good morning.
I need help with this 315H
background...it has a #13 ind coil
Bells are 1250 ohms
Someone installed a 3 blade hook assy. was not original, but it is there now.
It had the wrong handset with it.
Today...
I have added a handset from I thought was a Federal ,
but it may have stromberg transmitter.
That does not matter, the transmitter has lost most of its carbon, and doen not work.
It has a 4 wire sub to hand cable.
I need to know how this thing came from factory.
what handset was used, and what resistance the xmitter and rec had.
Any help, is help.
Thank you
Good morning .... The type 315H subscriber set was a subset or desk set box for use on a magneto system. It contained a 3 bar 22-A generator, ringer, induction coil, but "NO" condenser, hook switch or handset unless someone has modified the set at some point.
It was commonly used with with several types of Western telephones. I've inserted a page from W.E. 1935 Telephone Catalog showing the the 315 series of subset and the components each model was equipped with. Just double click the image for an enlarged view.
Hope this helps.

The receiver is around 70 ohms not critical most will interchange. The transmitter varied with the circuit tthis might be backwards but lower resistance on CB (line powered) high resistance LB (battery powered).. I thought the 315 was a subset so there was a telephone such as a 202 for example.. The hookswitsh was added. by handset are you refering to a handset or a seperate receiver?
Jeff, I have the 315-H and need to know its wiring schematic, do you know where to look?
will this help?
my bad, just saw that was a 317... :(
John .... Here's an early version of the door label & schematic from 1911 ( jpeg & pdf ). I have a later version as well. I'll post that one once I find it. Click twice to enlarge the view.

Are you saying that your phone is a 317?
Do you have a photo of your box?
John .... Here's the later version of door label normally found on the 315H subset. Both jpeg & pdf versions attached. Click to enlarge.

No poplar1... it is a 315, I saw the pic, and saw only the 317...scared me. it is both.
my phone is a 315H.
Does anyone have a pic or wiring diagram for a 1040AL desk phone, or a 1002AC hand set?
and what do AL, and AC stand for?
20AL is with red the same as a 40AL:
Green----------------GN------------------green receiver
Yellow-----------------Y------------------to transmitter
Red--------------------R
W------------------white receiver
YY-------------------to transmitter
Thank you!
So, a 20AL, or a 40AL will hook right up to this thing?
Yes, just connect the 3-conductor cord to terminals R, GN, and Y in the 315H.
Then, connect 3 volts DC to the two BATT terminals.
Connect L1 and L2 to another similar "local battery" phone such as 1317 (317l, Leich 901, or another 315/300 with 20AL, 102, etc.
AWESOME! thanks to all. this will help get this thing in the line up.
I bought this thing from a consignment shop, and the ind coil is the only original part in it.
so, it has been fun just figuring out what it was supposed to have in it.
