What is the best Subset 634-685-684, to use with a Western Electric 202 phone.  Thanks

The 634A and 684A are the same circuit, other than slight differences in ringer construction. Any of these will work, although to use a 685A you would have to rewire the 202 and use a 5-conductor cord. 684A was made at the same time as 202s (1930s); most 634As are conversions from 534As originally made in the 1920s and upgraded in the late 30s and 40s.

I have my 202 hooked up to a 685 with a 4 conductor cord. Here's the diagram:

Where would the extra conductor go?

Starting with a 202 as usually wired, you would move the black handset wire currently on BK of the dial, and connect it to a 5th conductor to the subset.
