Good morning everyone, I have been searching for the WE 500 P/U Mushroom set for my own personal collection. After seeing them go for  $400 to $500 and the limited funds I have available, I've decided I would like to make my own. Mind you, I'm not looking to pass this off as the real thing, I just want to make sort of a "tribute" set. I plan on using a princess phone to donate parts. My question is, does anyone know where I can get the "Mushroom" or Hood that covers the light? Also, does anyone have any pictures of the inside, like the bracket that holds the light in place, or any other pictures that would help. Any help would be truly appreciated.
Thank you!

Anthony,

This sounds like an interesting project, Christian did basically the same thing. In this link, you can find a link to reproduction caps and the process of making one. Link: http://www.classicrotaryphones.com/forum/index.php?topic=12401.msg130757#msg130757

You aren't the only one who became hopeless of ever getting a Mushroom:

I also made one from parts. I bought the light hood from Old Phone Shop, who sells them for $49.00. Keep in mind that these aren't originals, but they sure look the part!

If you're going to make a black set, I would buy a white cap and paint the outside black, because the white reflects the light onto the dial. You could also buy a black cap and paint it white inside, too. Either one would work!

I should revive that topic; I got pretty far on that project since the last time I updated it.

Christian,
I was so inspired by your video, that I rushed into my workshop and grabbed a spare 500 and drilled the hole out where the switch goes. It came out perfect! Now I really want to get this done! $50 for the mushroom light hood is a lot better than $500 + for an actual mushroom phone, I just need to convince the wife of that fact! Haha! Does anyone have a two line switch/knob they're selling?

I don't have one, but you can find some on ITT 2-line phones. They're easy to get, they look almost identical to the originals and they fit perfectly! I have an ITT version on my Mushroom.

P.S; Ben is the one who makes the great videos on Youtube. I was the one who made the Mushroom (don't worry, everyone gets us confused!)
