Title: Auction (240 Cancelled: Listing Terminated) WE 1937 Vented 302 with Straight Cords
Post by: TelePlay on November 13, 2016, 01:13:13 AM
New forum members are very welcome and encouraged to take a guess. After all, there are no wrong guesses, just one lucky one. No one knows the winning bid on any auction until it ends. However, it is important to get your guess in before someone else grabs your guess.

Listed about an hour ago ( with a thanks to Fabius for the heads up ) in a 5 day auction with no reserve starting at $25.00 is a 1937 vented 302 with good original paint. The seller provided an very good array of external and internal photos. Within the first hour, the phone attracted 2 buyers placing 2 bids driving the price up to $30.00. The phone has 12 watchers and is the 61st most watched phone on eBay, but that will change. There is an upside here but the question once again is how much upside. So, what will this old 302 sell for when the auction ends?

NOTE: we will use a $5 gap rule between guesses again to prevent crowding. As such, keep your guess at least $5 away from prior guesses for this contest.

The seller listed it as an "WESTERN ELECTRIC 302 METAL TELEPHONE WITH F1 HANDSET & #4 DIAL DATED 1937" with the item condition as "used" and " - - - " and with the auction listing description saying simply "WESTERN ELECTRIC METAL 302 TELEPHONE. THIS PHONE IS COMPLETELY DATED 1937(SEE PHOTOS). THE PHONE HAS A #4 DIAL WHICH TURNS AND WORKS FREELY AND DATED 1937. THE DIAL PLATE IS ALSO DATED 1937. THE PHONE HAS AN F1 HANDSET WITH NO CRACKS OR CHIPS AND DATED INSIDE 1937. THIS PHONE HAS THE SMALL EARS, PLUNGERS AND THE VENT IN THE BACK.  THE PHONE IS IN ORIGINAL CONDITION WITH WEAR IN THE CRADLE AREA.  THIS PHONE IS IN WORKING CONDITION AND RINGS IN AND DIALS OUT. THE HANDSET WIRE LOOKS TO BE ORIGINAL AND THE LINE CORD IS A FOUR PRONG PLUG. THIS IS A NICE PHONE FOR ANYONES COLLECTION OR FOR USE."

Got a message from eBay saying this listing was cancelled.

As such, there is no winner and the number (240) will be reused, for a better phone. If this phone is relisted with a reserve, the contest "may" be reactivated.

Thanks to all that played. Sorry to see the bidding interest not be strong enough to keep the seller from pulling this phone off of eBay.

It has been relisted, this time with a $50 opening bid but also a reserve.

Is the auction back on?

Let's keep it going with a new end date.

Yes, it is. poplar1 saw it and posted the relist and I got a message from the seller about the relist with a reserve.

Since I have an idea that the reserve will be met, I am going to leave this as a regular contest. If the reserve is not met but it goes to a normal conclusion, I will convert this to a Special Auction Contest and the person closest to the highest bid, the current market value for this phone, will get a win in the Special Auction Contest standings.

Every thing will go back to what it was before the seller cancelled the listing. If anyone wants to change their guess, they can do so once under regular contest rules by POSTING A NEW REPLY with their new guess (so I don't miss and edit - I really don't go back and check for such edits without notice).

Good luck to all and guess well . . .

So for the 2nd time the auction ended early.  I've bought from this guy before, and don't recall having any problems.

Well, the contest wasn't meant to be. Will move it back to the cancelled contest topic and there it will stay.

My impression that it was stopped the first time because bids were not coming in at a steady rate leading to a market price an hour before the auction ended. As such, it was listed with a reserve. No bids came in (maybe ending the first auction early was not a good idea because I've noticed people who bid on a first listing don't show up for a re-list - just an observation) so he ended it early, again.

Twice burned so it stays cancelled, regardless.

As such, the contest is cancelled with no winner. Thanks again to all who played along . . .
