I have a couple 304's I won on ebay.  One is a matching date 1951 with a 5H dial, marked "304 A/C" on the bottom of the base.  The other is the ultimate frankenphone.  The base is undated and the parts date from 1938 (ringer) to 1959 (dial plate).  Most of the parts are from 1949 but it has a cloth cord.  The switchook has the last switch bent backwards, it appears to be intentional.  Does anyone know if this was some kind of field modification when these were re-wired for use on straight lines?

What set of contacts on the switch are bent?  Are they bent in such a way as to make contact all the time?  This should have nothing to do with the ringing as the ringers were connected across the line before the hookswitch.
