I recently bought a WE 500 set on eBay with what I thought was a G5 handset, but now that I have received it, it is a J1A. The BSP 501-210-104 says it has a 1475Hz oscillator for "1 type telephone reporting sets". Pressing the button sends a tone, but what is it used for?

It's not hoarding if you have cool stuff!

I think it was for special subscription services that automatically connected customer-premises equipment for alarm indications.

PS: I thought there was a section of BSPs on voice connecting arrangements, but I can't find them right now, I think I had an index at least.

Karl is correct.     I was wondering what it was used for myself.     Just found this BSP information in the TCI Library. ( attached ).     Appears to be associated with a customer's alarm system equipment.    The explanation starts on the 2nd page, and the reference to the handset is in section 2.05.

Meant to mention that the previous information attached to my last message, was provided, with thanks, by the Telephone Collectors International Library.
