A1 desk set Patent Dates

Wikapedia is claiming that the Western Electric A1 was patented in 1927.  I always though the A1 was made in 1924/25 in small numbers, and the B mount came out in 1926, the D mount 1929.  What gives?  And yes, I know that patent dates are not manufacture dates.

The A1 desk set was patented on Sept. 16, 1924. Patent number 1,508,424, by George Thompson.
The production sets came out years later, with a few slight changes to the body design, which did not require a new patent update.
