I think that is the best of choices. The base of a 302 telephone will do fine as well, especially if you buy a newly made cover for it that fits.

I don't really like my connection diagram anymore after seeing from the diagram in your set that you are using the anti-sidetone winding as a secondary.  This is in fact very similar to what I did once with a Kellogg coil and a 211 set. It worked fine, but I know it's not quite the right thing to do.

The mini-networks are best when built directly into the base of the desk set, because if you don't then you need extra wires in the cord to include the dial contacts in the right places, IIRC.
