I have a w.e. 51- c and a 534-a subset. I need to know number of conductors for mounting cord ( subset to wall) and phone to subset. The subset is a side tone net work

Phonesrfun

Welcome to the forum:

All subsets to wall = 2 wires;  L1 and L2, usually red and green.  It used to be that a third yellow ground wire was often used to control ringing on party lines, which is no longer needed.  The ringer and its associated capacitor need to be bridged in series with each other across L1 and L2.

Assuming you are connecting a Western Electric sidetone phone to the network, there are three wires used.  They are also red, green, and yellow.  Red from the phone base connects to "R" in the subset.  Green from the phone base connects to "GN" or "G" in the subset.  Yellow from the phone base connects to "L2/Y" in the subset.

You can also refer to diagrams at the TCI website:

Thanks phonesrfun for the cord-conductor information

Third;
Welcome to the forum. You listen to Bill, you will never go wrong. Unless of course he tells you tall tales about me.
