got this piece in a box lot at auction. what is it? is it worth anything?

It is a meter movement, probably from an old VOM (volts-ohm-meter).

I don't think it is worth a lot of money, maybe $5-10. You can find information about CONAR if you google their name. They were just like Heathkit and other kit manufacturing companies.

That is the meter that came with The National Radio Institutes radio repair course from the 50's. It goes to a VTVM, Vacuum Tube Volt Meter, that you built piece by piece as you proceeded through he course. Someone that has the course and needs that meter may pay a good price for it if it's good.
My dad took the course and I think I still have his meter somewhere.
