Hi, I'm new here, so I apologize if this question has been answered somewhere else, but I couldn't find it. Anyway...What is the difference between a Northern Electric and a Western Electric E1 handset. I've seen an add for the NE and from the pics it looks the same as the WE. Thanks in advance.

NE made a lot of the same phones and other equipment that WE did, up until the time that they started making the Contempra instead of the Trimline. NE was part of Bell Canada and AT&T owned part of Bell Canada. They usually waited a couple of years after WE introduced a new model before they started making them. There is really no difference in a WE E-1 and a NE E-1 other than the markings. The 4H dial made during the same period does have major difference in the arrangement of the terminals. The round base B-1 mounting was never manufactured by NE, only the oval base D-1.

Thanks for the info. And I suppose it fits that a shop in Canada is selling "Northern" Electric parts.
