Well, not so strange. Listed as a "Western Electric parts payphone in bracket 1937 1951" at $0.01 with a reserve, it ended within 15 minutes of being listed with the "excuse" of item no longer available. Wonder what it sold for on the side?

Looked to be in very good condition with most parts there.

What was it worth and how original was it?

TelePlay

There were actually 2 of these by the same seller listed at the same time, both ended the same way.

Both phones had been previously listed and didn't meet the reserve:

The "1937/1951" one with the $300 139A backboard was at $610 on March 30:

The "D96589" was at $385 when it ended on 4/6:

Thanks, hadn't seen those. Might they have been an automatic re-list with the seller deciding not to go through another cycle? Just seeing the 15 minute cancelled listing didn't make sense, they do now.

I think you are right about the automatic relist. The one that was $610 was also relisted ending April 6--this time at $610.99--and the ending times were 18:00:58 on 3/30, 18:01:29 on 4/6, then, as you said, almost immediately ended by seller at 18:14:20 on 4/6.
