Seller Listing Title:  "Western Electric White 302 Desk Telephone"
Condition:  "Used"
Condition Qualifier:  " - - - "

Listing Description:  "All original, as found. One of the nicest sets you can find. -- The white color is still very white. White 302s are sometimes found yellowed from exposure to light or heat. The base has no cracks or hairlines at any corners. There are a few very light hairlines between the top cradle ears. The receiver has the usual couple on each cap, the handle has a couple small very light hairlines. Hairlines are pretty much on all 302s if you look close enough. -- The original white cloth receiver cord is very clean. There are no frays or nicks. No stain or faded spots. The cord should display very nicely after a little soap and water. -- The original line cord is black rubber. It is actually original to the set too as both the receiver cord and the line cord are similarly stamped 53 in the brass wraparound rings at the base ends of the cords. The rubber is in great shape, no tears or cracks, is still very flexible. -- The base black paint is very clean. No rust or damage beyond a little normal wear. The internal guts are also very clean. Again no rust or mold or mildew problems. There is one small screw missing that holds down one end of a metal strip that holds the condenser in place. -- The dates stamped in red throughout the set are all in the first 3 months of 1953 except the dial which is stamped 12/52. -- The dial rotates smoothly. The original porcelain number plate is in very nice condition."

Color for a B1, D1, and H1 (302) is dash 4: Ivory.
W.E. didn't make white phones (dash 58) until 1957. No *new* 302s made by W.E. after 1954.

Yes, and I sent a message to the seller last night asking what was stamped on the back of the dial, -4, -50 or -58.

Yes, must be -4 but I'd prefer to wait for the seller to reply with what he sees before making changes to the contest title.

5J and 6D dials do not have a color code. They all have white (yes, white) cases and Lucite finger wheels (except for the 1937-1940 5Js, which had stainless steel finger wheels).

There are some 302s made in 1955 from reused components with moulded housings in 500 colors, and painted handsets. However, these were 2 years too early to have been white.
