I needed another network to replace the cracked one in my SC 1243 WA - I ended up getting a complete phone for less than several of the parts phones I was looking at. My new SC is a 1243 WF - and as I suspected its a frequency ringer. Overall, the phone is much nicer than my old1243 but there are other differences besides the ringers.
1) old WA has brass gongs - New WF has steel
2) old WA has bakelite plungers - new WF  has metal plungers
3) old WA has AE dial - new WF  has Stromberg Carlson dial
I would rather fix up the WF phone  - I'm guessing all I'd have to do is drill out the rivets for the frequency ringer? The straight line ringer is held in by 2 brass screws.
Is there any way to date either of these phones?

P.S. - At the risk of being burned at the stake, I think these 1243s are better looking than the WE 302s.

Ok, my opinion on the SC's looks aside, can anybody here provide info?
1) I'd like to somehow find out if there is a way to date an SC 1243
2) Does anyone here know how to service a Stromberg Carlson dial mechanism?
