Ooh, I´ve been wanting this one for a long while. I collect red phones, so one of these is really a must-have.

It really screams 1979 to me. Love the design and it has a very unusual dial. It is a very light Phone. It is possible to mount it on the wall. You can lift and turn the dial mechanism, without opening it up for that purpose.

It is in fine vintage condition. No damage, very little wear. Dial sounds a bit scrapy and flimsy, but it runs nicely. Haven´t tested the Phone yet.

Just got it in today. Bought it through Etsy. Took 3 weeks to get here, all the way from Croatia. Made in Poland. 40 euro, 20 euro shipping, 25 euro taxes and admin fee. Pfffffffffffffff.

All in all I´m very happy with it. It will gleam very nicely by the time. It is a enormously welcome addition to my collection.

Cool looking phone ;D
To rotate the dial do you just lift the black part and turn it? Speaking of the dial, doesn't your finger slip out before you hit the finger stop ???

The spoked fingerwheel reminds me of a GEC prototype:

Yes, that is very similar indeed. Do you know why it never went into production?

I think I saw a metal spoked wheel once. One of those querky early Rotary dials. One of strowgers?

All I know is that the spoked fingerwheel was either not popular or it was not reliable, probably just a bit too radical for us brits back in the late 50s... :D

Thanks.

You can lift it by the finger stop, but is goes a bit askew, so you have to grip the rest of the dial. You can lift the whole mechanism. I turns easily until you feel a stop en something slots into place when you let it return into its recess. Haven't opened it. I think I'll do that later tonight.

My finger doesn't slip out. I didn't spin it so fast as to have been affected by violent centrifugal forces.  :)

But seriously, the dial is in a recess so my finger stayed in. But I think that if it were a raised dial, slipping fingers wouldn't occur much. I think it's in a recess because of the conversion mechanism and to keep it below the handset.

Nice phone matilo but too much money !.. you paid the total...

Matilo Telephones

Well yes, I paid a lot. Mostly on postage, customs and admin costs. The phone itself was 40 euros, which is not hugely expensive for a nicely colored vintage phone.

And every once in while I buy something crazy.  ;D

Well I got it going. Works fine. I think. Cause when it rings, it sounds like a cricket.

Can I post a soundfile here?

Polish friend of mine is gonna bring me one back in his hand luggage when he returns from a trip home in January, said its about £5 UK, it's the shipping prices that are exorbitant.

Lots of interesting looking models listed, whole new niche of collecting there!

5 Pounds? Nice. Also a red one? Will you post pics?

I have some Polish acqaintances, but not that I can ask them to bring dusty old phones to me.  :)

Thanks for the link. More interesting stuff indeed. There are a couple of cold war eastern block red phones I'm interested in.

But I also still for example a red trimline (US and GPO), Contempra, Grillo, Fetap, etc etc.

Bratek, it's a very nice name for a phone. Don't see many phones named after flowers :) I'm not really bothered about Polish phones, guess I'm not much of a patriot in that sense.
