Card Dialer - how to clean the dial?

Hello, everyone. I've had a Western Electric 660A1 Card Dialer (rotary type) for a couple of years now. At first, the card reader dial was just fine; after awhile, it started occasionally dialing pulses which my phone service couldn't recognize, but for the most part, it still dialed OK. Recently, however, things have taken a turn for the worse, as the pulses it dials are anything but distinct (especially in terms of '1's), and every attempt to dial ends up throwing an error. I made a "null card" (dials a series of fourteen '0's, obviously not used when the handset is off-hook), but it doesn't seem to have had an effect as of yet. I took the cover off of the unit to have a look, and the card reader dial mechanism seems to be buried deep in the works. Is there any known way of cleaning the dial in these beasts without dismantling the entire phone? Thanks in advance!
