I saw this topic in an old thread and thought I'd bring it back to show what worked for me and maybe help others.  This AE 33 cycle ringer is in a AE 50 I'm restoring.  It must be original because it has cloth wires which are all neatly tied through out the phone.  I removed the ringer from the phone and loosened the nut in the middle, holding the clapper and moved the whole assembly closer to the cores of the coils.  After a few adjustments, I finally got a weak ring but when I disconnected the red wire from the ringer and inserted a .47 mf condenser from that coil to L1, I got a loud, strong ring.  I hope this can be of use.

Mike...or anyone else who might be able to help.

I just picked up an AE40 with what I think is a 54 cycle ringer.  Is it possible to make a modification to this ringer like the one made to the 33 cycle ringer? Would the condenser value be the same?

Is there a source for straight line AE ringers?

Thanks,
Nick
