I recently acquired a 1937 302 that was missing the ringer. If anybody has a B1A ringer with the dates 11-1937 or close, I would be willing to make an arrangement. My budget is pretty low, so if you need anything, we could also exchange parts.

Thanks!

Make that 2!
My 1937 302 is equipped with later date ringer.
Mine also has a dial from 1939 in it, a 1937 dial would be nice too!

I believe the '37 ringers didn't have a date, but maybe only a star on them.  My early '38 doesn't have a date on the ringer.  I'll defer to the experts.

I think Tim Mc is right....based on a few early 302s I have.  A 9-37 and an 11-37 both have bia ringers without a date.

Perhaps I could get a newer ringer and hide the date.

Another question I have about old 302. Did the grove less F1 handsets have groves on the receiver cap and transmitter cap? I've got an matching date F1 handset but I'm not sure if the caps are correct.

Thanks for the info!

I don't know about the grooves, but if your caps are 1937 or 1938, the date will be stamped inside in ink. A 1937 or 1938 handle will also be dated near where the cord enters.

Not sure how conclusive this is .I have two 37s both N.O.S. in original cartons.   My 3/37 is ungrooved ...with grooved caps and my 11/37 with grooved handset also has grooved caps.   Both these phones were never placed in service so it can be safely assumed , at least in the greater New York area both types used grooved caps.

QUERY:

From Paul F.'s site
For a chart showing component evolution on early 302 sets, see this chart prepared by Hal Belden.   http://vintagephone.com/HB302.htm

Are all 1937 302's small plunger sets? Does anyone have a 1937  large plunger set?
Are all 1937 302 sets metal? Does anyone have a 1937  plastic set?
Does anyone else have a plastic small plunger set? What color and date code? (mine is clear housing only)

I have also seen photo's of a F handset that dis-assembled like an E handset. I have disassembled  a regular style  1936 F handset
Pre 1939 F handsets used to be considered mythical or at least very scarce

Just wondering,

I think I can add to the confusion. Have an 11-37 as shown in picture above that has "long ears" and larger switch hook buttons. I believe this phone was never put into use so is in original from WECo configuration.

BTW, I just learned about early 302 ringer dates from Poplar.  I have a '38 that doesn't have a date on the ringer.  My '37 has a grooved F1 handset and caps, but it's dated 10-29-37, so it isn't an exact match for the I-37 base.

I also have an 11-37 but mines has small ears and small buttons. Mine also does not have any vents in the handhold. It is amazing how much variability there is these phones.

Andy, what type dials are on your 1937 sets? 4H or 5H?

   Early 302 (3-37)has a 4H dial  ,the later (11-37) has a 5H. Also have a 9-37 manual 302 which has NO dial. ;)
