What is this Dial? Re: Stromberg Carlson Old Style

Thought I had seen them all, I paid a little more than I usually do for a Galion as I thought this was a clear finger wheel North.

It isn't! Spins and returns as it should and does work properly. Looks like a North, sounds like a North...but it isn't.

Used the same 1/2 ring spacer that AE dials use in a North

Any info is greatly appreciated....Doug

Yep, you are correct, and they are usually transparent and yellowed with age.

Unlike seasoned collectors, I have only worked with SC dials for a year or so now but have never seen a colored plastic case in the dozen or so SC dials I have worked with, some of which have been posted in detail in the dial cleaning board. This type of dial cover is for the "older style" SC dials.

Stromberg-Carlson.  They are the only ones who made dials like this.

I hadn't put the dials back into the SC 1243's so easily available to take images just like the blue case images but of both the old style and new style SC designs.

Old style has the removable window for servicing like the blue plastic case image above.

New style has the leaf switch soldered wired coming up through through the grommet to the connecting terminals.

These dials really look pretty when taken apart, cleaned, oiled upon assembly and back together, look like NOS and work perfectly.

Interesting in how the old style design has a newer clear finger wheel with a removable number plate, metal ring card holder and two (top and bottom) un-threaded posts to fix the case in place and held in place by the 5 terminal screws.

The new style has the Bakelite finger wheel with the fixed in place metal number plate, the 3 legged plastic inserted number card holder and the plastic cover held on by two mounting screws (top and bottom)

But then, nothing standard about SC phones when it comes to dial designs. Anyone working with SC dials would have experienced this.

This is a Stromberg-Carlson dial. It will work perfectly in your North telephone.

I have the North Electric spacers in stock, and will get some underway on Monday.

Best Regards

Steve

Hey Steve, I hope all is well. I need you expertise on this dial. I found it in North Galion and thought it was a North dial with a clear finger wheel. I have never seen anything like it. Need the 1/2 ring spacer to mount like an AE in a North. Any help is greatly appreciated.....Doug
