Interesting.  Apparently the design lasted long enough to make the transition from metal to plastic fingerwheels.

It's always interesting to see rotary dials on devices other than phones. In a Vintage Hi-Fi group on Facebook, someone showed off a personal jukebox that uses a rotary dial to make the selection.

I would like to put one of those on my door, but of course, I would have changed to either reverse dial since I grew up in Oslo :-)

I think the rotary dial locks were replaced by the push button locks.  Those seem to be more common than the rotary ones.

I think the biggest reason it didn't catch on was mentioned in the video.  You had to cut a much larger opening in the door to accommodate it, making it impossible to switch back to a standard door knob w/o having to get a new door.
