Telephones in the Mono County, CA Museum

This past summer I visited the Mono County Museum in Northern California and spotted a few phones. One photo is a little blurry but oh well.
Dave, who still needs a Transmitter Bracket for the Automatic Electric Type 38 Handset.

The sign to the right of the candlestick says it was used to cut grass, crops and weeds. What did they use to make phone calls?

 ;D Here is a picture of myself in the museum and you can see two of the phones, one on either side of me. As you can see the displays are rather close to one another. The phone next to the scythe says that it was found on the Donner trail.  ;D
