Open center finger wheels--part number P-19B524--were used on 7C dials  and on 6D dials.

7C dials= color 500s c. 1953-1965
6D dials=Imperials and Continentals c. 1955-1956; color 302s c. 1952-1954

The 7C and 7D dials were manufacture discontinued c. 1965. Both were replaced by the 9C, which has a P-11E007 or solid center finger wheel. This is the same finger wheel found on Princess dials starting in 1959. The 6D dial, however, continued to be manufactured until c. 1975.

By 1968, the P-19B524 finger wheels were no longer available. So newly manufactured or reissued dials, as well as repairs made in the field,  required the use of P-11E007 finger wheels.

The following info is in BSP Section 501-162-100 Issue 8, December 1968:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

                                                    Station Dials
                                                5,6,7, and 8 Types
                                            Identification and Maintenance

[snip]

1.01 This section is reissued to...
Add P-11E007 plastic finger wheel as
                        replacement for P-19B524 finger wheel.

[snip]

                       3.22 ...Note: When replacing a P-19B524 fingerwheel
with a P-11E007 fingerwheel, the finger stop
must be bent upward to clear the fingerwheel.

Hello David do you mean that the 7C dial had an open center finger Wheel? because I have a 500 with a 7C dial but with a solid center finger Wheel on it... May be i'm wrong or I did not understood ( understand )..

I'm not sure when Northern Electric stopped using the open center finger wheels. More than likely in 1964 they were still using open center finger wheels on 7C dials. Was your phone ever refurbished?

I believe that your WE 7C dial as originally manufactured had a P-19B524 (open center) finger wheel. It may have been replaced when the phone was rebuilt.

Sorry...this is more easy for me to write in french for certain things about the phone. this is due to the terms sometimes and I can't translate the right term.. i'm sure you'll understand.. David can translate for you..thank you

However, when I look at the BSP or any other document related to the phone WE 1953 I also, it has a black metal wheel. I have also on my phone David .. That's why I wanted to know the difference because, in fact, I've never seen 'open center fingerwheel "on a weekend in 1953 ..

Looks like it tried to decipher "WE" as "week end"  :)

Denis,
There should be a color code on your 7C dial. What is written after 7C- on your dial? (7C-53 for example). That will tell you the original color of your dial.

Black 500Ds had 7A dials or 7D dials.  Both had aluminum finger wheels painted black.

The 7C dial had a Lucite (clear plastic)  finger Wheel.

7C-3 =Black number plate and Lucite (clear plastic) finger Wheel---used on 500H and 500U "Mushroom phones." Lucite dial also available as an option if Customer desired it.

7C-50=Ivory nunber plate
7C-51=Green
7D-52= Gray (dark)
7C-53=Red
7C-54=Brown
7C-55=Beige (dark)
7C-56=Yellow
7C-57=Blue (dark)
7C-58=White
7C-59=Pink
7C-60=Light Beige
7C-61=Light Gray
7C-62=Aqua blue
7C-64=Turquoise

When a phone was refurbished, they often changed the color without changing the code on the back of the dial.
