Hi people
This will be coming to live in the UK shortly. Were these Ma Bells answer to having lots of unwanted 202s after the 500 was introduced? Seemed reasonable price wise and the shipping wasn't extortionate either...https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F153739983693

Yes, they were a way to use up old equipment, and to have the subscriber pay for the privilege,

After the Imperials were removed from service, a lot of them went to the Telephone Pioneers who made them into lamps.
Over the years a lot of the lamps were reconverted to telephones by collectors.

You can find them with white plastic handsets or painted handsets.
Some of the F style handsets are converted for G elements

Good deal.  That's pretty cool getting the matching subset with it.

They are very nice display pieces, I have one in my collection.

Good for you!

Being a inherent fan of shinny,  I'm a fan of Continentals/Imperials as well. The dual history of these phones is unique.

Enjoy your new shinny imperial!

Send pictures of it when it gets home.

Washing cords?
I'm wondering if a soak in oxy stain remover is advisable?
Any thoughts?
Cheers

A really good find at a great price and a nice addition to the collection. Is the handset ivory or painted?

(Have never imported via eBay, is a Customs fee paid in addition to the shipping?)

Is the cord fabric or plastic?

I recall information on this forum about washing cords.
I think dish washers, clothes washers and handwashing came up.
please advise if you find the topic.
Thanks,
Jim

No.

For cloth cords, use Woolite laundry detergent, hand wash with a toothbrush in warm water, rinse well

Plastic or rubber cords, use a mild degreasing liquid detergent to remove oils and dirt by hand rubbing, rinse well, dry and use alcohol or acetone on a cloth carefully to remove marks

Oxy cleaners are peroxide based and may affect color.

Strong detergents and chemical soaking can leach out plasticizers making the plastic or rubber stiff and/or more brittle.

A soak in warm water and Woolite it is then...
The cords are cloth and I presume original. The one between the phone and subset is stupidly long...roughly 20ft.
The handset is painted on this one ...
All in all I'm impressed 🙂
