It is used for dialing phone numbers :D

I would guess that it came out of a pay phone.

Having two white and two yellow leads makes me believe there were two sets of dial shunt springs, which were used in speakerphone applications.  The front of the dial looks like one out of one of the design-line sets.

Good one, I left myself wide open for that.

Bill;
I thought maybe a desk set in a box or something. A fancy set.

With the connector, it could be from a ComKey set.  (There were speakerphone versions.)

Is there a model number on the back of the dial?

It almost looks to me like it belongs on one of the design line sets. The silver number plate and silver number card look very familiar to me from a couple of different ones. The Sculptura comes to mind, although it had the numbers inside the holes.

I think the country junction designline phones used those dials.

518-450-106, Issue 3 page 17 lists the 8TA-119 dial as a replaceable component of the Comkey 416 rotary sets.

It may have other uses on sets that used a similar chassis, such as Dimension and MET sets.

In case you haven't seen one, here's a photo of a ComKey 416 set.  There were 4 basic models -- 2 rotary and 2 touch tone.  One of each was a "master" set that had a PBX-like controller built in, and could handle several satellite stations. Up to 2 masters could be used on a complete system.  It's an interesting small self contained multi-station system. They were intended to be plug-and-play, so were used in small businesses and workgroups as an alternative to a more complex 1A2 key system.

If there's interest, I'll dig out some more info.
