1045's are great tools. they sold  for about $500.00 new. I think the 1050 was at least $1,500.
I like the 1045 for testing yard sale phones. I use the 1050  on phones that I am selling or giving away. The main difference in the test for regular telephones is the 1050 has a sound meter and the 1045 has sound level lights. The 1050 also tests old cordless phones. I think the 1050 is a better quality machine.

There is a book that states it is not a manual for a 1050. However, It describes everything a 1050 does. I will try to find the title.
Good find on the testers. I would go for the 1050, but I like testers.

Here is 1045B manual there doesn't seem to be any operational difference between letter models. Some of the early models may not have dial light powew. there was a modification to upgrade them.

According to the 1045B manual, it tests dials at 8-20 PPS. Is the 1050 less tolerant?

The point I was trying to make is: I think the 1050 is built as a more heavy duty unit. They are heavy. A 1045 is light and handy. That is why I like the 1045. The 1045 does all I need , but I like the 1050 cause it looks cooler. When I thin down the 1050 would go first, mainly based on size and weight.

The book I suggested as a 1050 manual is:
"Complete guide to telephone equipment troubleshooting and repair" by John D. Lenk
there are copies on Amazon for less than $10.00 delivered

This book also covers the 1045_  testers. My impression is that these sections were  submitted as a user manual and were  rejected by BK Precision. It has crossed my mind that John D. Lenk  may of helped design the 1045 and 1050 testers.

I would say that the book is the most complete testing manual for the 1045_ and 1050 testers that I have found.
