Title: Western Electric TYPE 296 compact wall phone

The 296 is an uncommon WE wood wall phone.  It is basically a 297 with a transmitter and receiver attached.

The wiring looks a little fishy on the door, as if it was rewired for a later transmitter.  I would expect to see straps, not wires.  The condenser and the key escutcheon are also later.  Otherwise it looks fairly intact for a phone you don't see very often.
