Apart from bidding on this from an intenet cafe because A*L have dicked me around for 4 weeks for a fried router, I bid £25 not wanting to let it away, as I only seen 2 in the past and was outbid, there's a specialist shop in UK sells them for £45 +.

Missed the end auction date, so went back to the cafe next day, BIDS - one, PRICE 99p.

Has to be my best bargain ever.

Excellent buy!

To most, it just looks like an old heavy meter of unknown origin.

Interesting item--I don't think  I've ever seen anything like it. It seems like it would be infinitely easier to use than the Bell System's stroboscope method.

Don't think we'll ever know.

The original topic was posted in March of 2010 and the op hasn't logged on since September of 2016.

the tester works very well. i have one and it is functional. only requires a strowger or equivalent type "A" & "B" relay combination to work. pm for details if interested.

How does it work, operate?

What does it do, test results?

As above.  Would you detail the 'how to use' instructions on this thread. Future members may come across one of these and it would be helpful if they can find the info they need here.

Thanks.

Curiosity got to me (again) so this morning I spoke with a former GPO employee who worked in GPO exchanges and is therefore familiar with this kit.

This is a GPO Type 43 Dial Speed and Pulse Tester (100ms per pulse / 10 pps) from a GPO exchange test desk.

These were mounted to a rear panel and connected to a Strowger two motion selector. They were used to test dial pulses. The lever was moved to the left to begin the pulse measurement.

There was a test desk in each exchange (example image below).

Once I had the name of this piece of kit I was able to search for a few additional images and found an internal image plus an example of mounting.
