Christian   ...    Have a look at the 500 series sets on Paul Fassbender's web site, or "PM" him directly.    He'd most likely knows what the code means.

Is it the only code on the base?  Is the base repainted?

No, the set is dates matching (minus the housing, which I replaced due to the smashed original in shipping :'( ) and the base looks like new, with no other unusual markings. No black brush marks anywhere, and no refurb stamps. It does have a typical seemingly meaningless yellow chalk mark, but that was probably written by the installer during installation.
