I came across this image on the web. Can't remember where exactly, it was a link to a link to a link of images. Interesting candlestick accessory, anybody recognize it?
Very Cool! Kinda makes that the first desk set??
I didn't even know they had anything like it!
Do you recognize the phone itself? That will give us a clue.

The phone is an AE Step but the holder isn't AE.
I've seen the image before - it's all over the place so I don't know who owns it.

And it don't look odd at all!...hehehe.....

Couldn't find that source but did find this image, a variation on a theme - first ever hands free telephone? Photo caption said it was an operator using the set up. Interesting.
I imagine that the chiropractors did quite a business in those days :).

The Bell Laboratory Records contain articles that illustrate the history of the operator head set,
for example:
Beardsley, H.I.: Operators' Transmitters and Receivers, BLR 7(1), 203 (1929)
Dan Golden brought one of theses to a Denver show many years ago.
Jim S.
Still haven't found a source for the original topic image but I did find another photo of the legit hands free set up, a side view.

Ah, ok. It did take me some time to find the file itself.
I was looking for another article with similar pictures, but couldn't find it quickly. The title may not be directly related.
