Seller Listing Title: "Western Electric Rose Beige 554 Soft Plastic Wall Telephone 1956 with Backboard "
Condition: "Used"
Condition Qualifier: " - - - "
Listing Description: "Out of my collection is this gorgeous 1956 Western Electric 554 wall telephone in the WE color Rose Beige (-55). This color was produced only for a few years in the 1950s, making this a very rare and collectible telephone. The plastics have no cracks or chips. The only blemishes it has is one very small nick on the inside of the handset near the Western Electric logo (see picture 8), and a couple of dark spots on one side of the body. I'm told it may be due to some "out-gassing" of the plastic material. Some discoloration is normal for a telephone that is nearly 62 years old, but this telephone overall had not turned "grayish beige" as most of them have of this color. It still has that original "rosey" hue to it. It has the early dull metallic switch hook, and the matching coiled cord is in very nice condition with no cracks or breaks. The dial turns very smoothly. This telephone is very clean inside and out. This telephone works perfectly, rings, makes and receives calls, just as it did in 1956! Also included is the original 172B wooden backboard that matches the telephone. I will include a modular cord at no extra charge, or I can install a modular backboard for $20 extra. If you plan to use this telephone, make sure your landline provider works with dial pulse telephones. Whether you plan to use it, display it, or add it to your collection, it will be a beautiful addition!"

Wow, there's a time and a place for a wide-angle lens. This was not one of those times... ::) It looks like the hook transformed itself into a pair of rabbit ears!
