I have a WE 144 type candlestick receiver that has no markings. I believe it is baklite (not earlier hard rubber) but not sure. How can I safely remove paint splatters and paint fingerprints from it. A while back, I had a similar receiver shell that I soaked in very hot water for a long time. The results were not that great as the receiver shell turned a moss green, but the paint did come off. Can I safely use a mild paint remover or other cleaner. I am trying to keep the old patina on it, and do not want to bring it to a NOS look.

Bakelite you can use a paint stripper. If it might be plastic, try goo be gone on the inside to make sure there is no melting. If there is no reaction, use it to remove the paint....Doug
