New forum members are very welcome and encouraged to take a guess. After all, there are no wrong guesses, just one lucky one. No one knows the winning bid on any auction until it ends. However, it is important to get your guess in before someone else grabs your guess.
Listed 12 hours ago in a 7 day auction with no reserve and starting at a reasonably high $279.99 is this Ivory AE40 telephone with chrome trim, the butler handle and a handset extensicord. The phone has no bidders as of this posting but I am sure that will change. There have been 11 other AE 40s in Auction Contests, none Ivory, to date with prices all over the place but all higher than the starting bid on this phone.

69 Orchid, Brass $4,350 6/21/2011
73 Jade Green Brass $1,228 4/9/2012
74 Orchid/Red, none $2,247 10/17/2012 (a lot of 2 phones)
78 Orchid, none $474 12/4/2012

92 Jade Green, Chrome $1,025 6/9/2013

NOTE: we will use a 3% gap rule between guesses to prevent crowding. As such, guess gaps of 6+% can be split. I'll help with these as the auction goes forward and guesses are entered.
So, once again, who best knows what this phone will sell for when the actions ends?
The seller listed it as an "Original A.E 40.......... Ivory Monophone " with the item condition as "Used" and " No cracks or repairs. Some light discoloration due to age. " with the auction listing description saying "The auction is for this rare ivory AE 40 in working, ready to use condition. It has been held in my collection since 1977. Because of their rarity they are not often offered for sale but I am auctioning it in order to downsize a lifetime collection. It is my only one and is as a fine an example of art deco you could want."

The seller, sometime within the past 4 hours, changed the listing to a starting price of $329.99 and added a BIN price of $440.
As such, this contest is hereby cancelled and thanks to all who played.
This listing was, IMHO, going down the road of the last auction contest one in that no bids would be offered until the last day (there were 12 people watching the phone) and the serious buyer(s) waiting until the end of the auction to try and win the phone with their best and final and first snipe bid. Seems the old days of many bids driving the price up from the first day listed until the end are no more. Anyone else see this "new" buyer tactic? Especially for the high ticket phones?
I think he might be selling himself short. Probably could have gotten more than $440.00 for it!
Since there is no reserve, if one person bids $329.99 or more, but less than $440, then the BIN will disappear, and it will again be a regular auction...and it could then go for more than $440.

Didn't remember that. Thanks for the refresher. I will watch it and if that happens, I will take it back to a live auction contest.
If anyone else wants to take a guess on this phone, please do so. I have a feeling that the first bid, if less than the BIN, will come with less than 24 hours to go and if not a BIN bid, it does have the chance to go higher than the BIN $440.
If the BIN goes away, I will reactivate the contest and with the guesses already entered, and any further guesses that come in after this post will be used to see who will win.
Everyone gets to change their guess once, so keep that in mind. AE_Collector changed his guess from $279 to $329 by way of a PM conversation I had with him. To change your guess, do it by way of a new reply to the topic. If you just change you guess post, I most likely will not see the change. 3% gap still applies and the order in which changes come in, if any, will be noted so first changes get precedent over a number.
If the phones sells for the BIN, the contest will stay cancelled.
If the other scenario comes to be, we will have a contest and a winner.
If no one buys the phone, the contest will stay cancelled.
This might be an interesting listing to watch tomorrow afternoon as it ends. There are currently 17 people watching this listing but no bids. The question is will someone put in a normal bid before a BIN bid takes it home or will it even sell? And if a normal bid is placed, making the BIN disappear, how close to or how much over the BIN will the phone sell for at the end. I can picture several ending scenarios but it all depends on who is watching, who wants the phone, how many want the phone and how much or how high are any of those who may want this phone willing to go? May be an interesting ending if it sells.
If the phone sells and not for the BIN price, I will re-instate the auction contest so if anyone wants to put in a guess or revise their guess, please do so by 6 AM PDT Saturday, 12 hours before the auction ends. With no bids now, any and all guesses or revised guesses before 6 AM will be okay.

Revise my bid please to $368
Revise mine to $440, please.
Thanks,

Note: If the auction ends with a BIN bid, a one bid buy, the contest will remain cancelled. The only way this contest will be reactivated is if a bid lower than $440 is offered and the BIN option goes away. One bid at the BIN $440 will leave the contest cancelled with no winner.
