This phone first surfaced on the forum in the classified "For Sale" section and was listed yesterday, in a 7 day auction, on eBay starting at $800 with no reserve. There are 2 bids as of this post so it will sell. The question is, as always in these contests, for how much?

With the contest starting so high but with the top end unknown, Rule #3 will be relaxed again to 4% allowing more "gaps" for member guesses.

So, with that said, what do you think this phone will sell for when this 7 day auction ends? With Rule #3 once again being relaxed to 4%, guess gaps of 8+% can be split in half. I'll help with these as the auction goes forward and guesses are entered.

The seller listed it as a "Old antique mahogany brown automatic electric monophone bakelite telephone" with the item condition as "Used" and " - - - " and said it's a "Beautiful Bakelite Mahogany brown AE1 Automatic Electric Monophone extension/manual phone.   Seems to be completely original down the dial card which is a chocolate brown.  Bakelite is in amazing shape for its age.  No clear coat, oil, or other strange polishes!!  Some minor pitting to the chrome cradle as shown in photo 5.  Also, dial card has a water stain but, all still displays well.  A very attractive and rare piece.  Sold as is (not working) as I do not have a means to test it.  Will be shipped well packed, double boxed, and insured which is why shipping is a bit higher.".

Still another chance to either move up a rung or to get onto the CRPF -> Contest Standings <- list.

     - - - >  As always, you have to play to win!

New forum members are very welcome and encouraged to take a guess. After all, there are no wrong guesses, just one lucky one. No one knows the winning bid on any auction until it ends. However, it is important to get your guess in before someone else grabs your guess.

As I said above, I will help members as the contest progresses to prevent guess crowding under Rule #3 lowered to 4% for this contest.

Thanks everyone!  I will not even attempt to put a guess in as it is my own sale and I do not want to jinx it.  Honestly, I am shocked you all believe I can get as much as you are guessing!  I thought starting at 800 was a big on the high end...

2 bids at this time, both from the same person.

I think, and the eBay experts may confirm or correct this, this is a person putting in a bid and coming back later and increasing their bid to a higher number. I've seen it before, especially just before an auction ends, where the high bidder shows up with a new bid, doing that than trying a snipe and losing out to a computer glitch at the last second. Am I right?

$1,700.

And yes, if you are already the high bidder or only bidder, and increase your bid, the current bid amount doesn't change---unless there is a reserve and your new bid equals or exceeds the reserve price...

I'm not sure what would happen if there is a BIN and rather than hitting the BIN button, a person instead submitted a bid higher than the BIN amount.

I'll admit I did that once on a very low priced item, just a small dollar item, and the current bid was under the BIN by a few bucks and without thinking, I put in a number, it was higher than the BIN, to snag the item as a snipe and was given a pop up warning that the bid I was making was above the BIN. I lost the item because the auction ended by the time I could rebid or hit the BIN. Should have just done the BIN. That was about a year ago so don't know what would happen doing that today. From what has been posted this weekend, the BIN would have disappeared after the first bid.
