I don't scan much and I just have basic scanning software. the scanner is a HP 3150 all in one.
What is the best format and resolution for text documents. I would like to scan some handbook style BSP's that are for colored 500 sets. I have these sitting at the scanner and ready to go.

I am planning on printing my copies larger so that i can read them without cheaters.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Be wary of JPEG if it is set to high compression. This is especially true if there are diagrams, since the compression artifacts can ruin an otherwise good print.

JPEG is popular, and 8-bit gray scale scans of black-and-white documents make reasonable-size files, even if the compression is set to zero. I think 150 dpi is plenty for text, but if there is a diagram with small detail, you might find that 300 dpi would do better.

By the way, my personal choice is dejavu - but many people have trouble with it.

Maybe this will help:

Thanks,
The first page answered my basic questions, and the later pages are answering my future questions. This is the "cheat sheet" I was looking for.

BTW Why is BSP scanning in "Off Topic"? Shouldn't it be under Technical "Stuff"?

Remco, yes it should be.  I'll move this topic to that Board.  The Board is open for members to post technical stuff here.  Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Here is a pdf scan I did using PDFill (free software, $20 lifetime +upgrades). I also sent it out on the listservers for downloading thru yousendit.
https://download.yousendit.com/MVNjT2pBTXZCMTdIRGc9PQ        (free 7 day/ 100 downloads)

It should end up in some of the telephone document sites for future downloading.

The pdfill is user friendly and so is yousendit, I will be scanning more phone info and posting downloads to the listservers so it can get archived in the various document sites.

Jim S.

This is the first document I have scanned w/ pdfill, and the first time I tried yousendit.
