I came across this auction 110632686714
The seller felt it is a factory paint job , his wife doesn't.

I decided it probably is factory so I bought it for about $35 delivered.

I saw that phone listed. The cord looks like it was painted along with the phone, and I would doubt that the SC factory would have done that. Please let us know what you find after it arrives.

I would say it's the SC version of the Med Blue originally

My question is, is the dial and number card on wrong and or the dial stuck?
Looks like some had masking tape and paint and got bored.

According to the listing the dial was messed up, and then "fixed it till it broke".

I noticed the painted cords. I have seen gold painted 500 sets and trimlines with matching painted cords. I have also seen an AE 80 type key phone.
I think the gold color wasn't possible in cord jacket at that time.

There is a striking reason as to why I believe this is a factory set.

I received the phone. The phone was original black and was factory painted(I beleive) Gold w/ the interesting dial design.

The plungers are clear, which is what makes me think this is factory. I was happy to get the clear plunger for the money.
I suspect that when I finally find a clear SC1543 it will probably have black plungers.

The number on the dial suggests the phone was in service in Buffalo, New York -- not far from Rochester.

Is there an older number card underneath the stick-on card?

It appears to have bonus card under the exsisting one. I haven't done anything with the dial yet.
Currently I am just trying to get the exterior cleaned up. It has a grease type residue on the phone, I am think 20-30 years in a kitchen with a gas stove .
I have been soaking the housing in warm sudsy water and gently wiping it down with micro-fiber. Here are some comparison photos.

The phone also appears to have a silver undercoat beneath the gold paint
