Bell System Films Spoofed by MST3k

I assume some of you are familiar with the Bell System film, "Once Upon a Honeymoon" where an angel named Wilbur helps a couple head off to their long over due honeymoon with the help of various WE products.

Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST3K) did a spoof of this film. For those of you not familiar with MST3k, it's a show about a guy blasted into space who must watch cheesy films with his robot pals while the mad and evil scientists record the effects the films have had on the test subject.

Anyway, it was one of my favorite shorts long before I got into to collecting phones. I hope you enjoy!

EDIT: I also forgot about "Century 21 Calling" and have added that as well.

Easy to make fun of times when our culture believe in science and progress, and the telephone company ran the world's leading scientific institution (Bell Labs).

Fast-forward another 20 years and perhaps someone will be making fun of the present era, when 40% of us don't believe in science or progress.

"Hey, did you hear?, Mr. Smith went to the hospital!"

"Oh, good for him, his business must be doing great!  I hear that's where all the stylish billionaires are taking their vacations now, at the hospital!"

"No, silly, he went because he was sick!"

"Really?"

"Yeah, he had a terrible bacterial infection!  Don't you just wish for the good old days, when there were antibiotics that still worked?"

"That's OK.  Nobody believes in that Darwin evolution hooey any more.  They can just give him something that worked two thousand years ago, and he'll be up and around in no time!"

"I know, let's try to call him up and tell him we hope he gets better soon."

"Great idea!  I'll just whip out my GooglePhone and ... uh oh, no bars.  Maybe we can send him a text message!"

"Yes, let's send him a text message!  I remember my grandma said that when she was our age, she had a dial phone.  It took almost fifteen seconds to dial a long distance call."

"Oh if only Grandma could see us now.  The miracle of instant communication, everywhere we go.  Oh darn...!"

"What's wrong?"

"Battery's dead again, it'll have to wait until I recharge this thing."

"How long is that going to take?"

"A couple hours...."

Announcer's voice:  Yes kids, that's right, it took grandma fifteen seconds to dial her rotary phone, but now you can send a telegram in a couple of hours!   And for those of you who still think of the world in terms of science and math, remember it this way:  Progress Is A Scalar!  That means it can go forward and backward!
