Post your "Finds of the Month" for August 2012 Here.

"Finds of the Month" are items that you acquired this month that you are particulatly excited about either because of its rarity, the difficulty you had in trying to find one for your collection or the exceptional "deal" you got on it etc.

;D This may be more of an provocation, than a nomination, but I did pick this up from a container.
The compact one got some cleaning with soapy water, ad a little treatment on the coiled cord.
I t is of course of that type who sends outs strange beeps and cant send real pulses  ;D
(Working just as new)

The other one has a broken cover over as you see, but works great. It may be configured for DTMF, regular pulses, or NZ/Oslo pulses by moving some dip switches. The R button (flash) may even be configured to act as ground start button.

The most important is the extension cords, usable for parts. :D :D

The covers from the big telephone was sent trough the dishwasher at high temp program, and that works fine.  :P :D

Hi All:

A 500 set is a 500 set. Right? No, wrong.

I'd like to nominate my rare 500 L/M set. It almost went unnoticed, until I opened it up and noticed the strange configuration of the inside. From my other message about it:

I was given a nasty looking old 500 set yesterday with all the dial markings rubbed off, and new markings scrawled on it using typewrite white-out. I was about to scrap it for parts, when I discovered after noting some major differences that it was a 500 L/M.

I replaced the dial surround with the surround from a scrapped 67 500 C/D, also a metal dialed set, cleaned it up a bit, but still have some cleaning and major buffing to do.

These are fairly rare. A Description of the 500 L/M comes from Paul F.'s page:

Single line w/ A-lead control for 1A2. 4-conductor mounting cord and terminal strip installed below dial. Originally used in applications where the ringer circuit had to be brought out through the mounting cord.

It is an interesting phone, and one which you seldom see. Out of the dozens of 500 sets I have in the museum, this is the only L/M. This one will definitely see display in the museum once it is cleaned up an buffed. Pretty non-descript looking - the major differences are all inside!

I spent a little while on this phone this evening, cleaning it, and rotating the dial plate to the correct position...[I actually had it flipped over to the back side, so the finger holes didn't match properly - I didn't notice that until tonight.] It will take a little buffing in the morning, but far less than I originally thought to bring it back to its original condition. I have updated the photo below with a current photo following buffing. The majority of marks were simply spots and streaks of paint, which came off nicely.

This is a very special find for me, but certainly not by the traditional eBay, flea market, yard sale route. I get by with a little help from my friends!

Really nice, and I'm learning something all the time.
And its good to see some real phones. :D

Very rare to see a bakelite or even a rotary here anymore.
People are talking about those funny old phones with cords, and don't really understand......

Yes, they are nice phones, especially with  the burled walnut and NU or NF handset. I have two, one Burled Walnut, and one Black with the NU handset, and one black one with the G handset. Guess which one is my favorite.

Love the cutaway dial on yours!

Don't know if this is worthy, but I'll offer this Meditteranean Blue 500 from ebay that I won for $52.00 plus shipping.  It shows wear & tinting, and is missing a key component, but is worth the price-- and then some!!

Hopefully you folks like this. Picked it up on ebay for $25 because it was covered in silver paint, after a lot of elbow grease this old Northern looks a lot nicer.

It would take a very nice silver painted finish to make it look better than it does in black! It is a "North" rather than a "Northern" though. Northern made somewhat similar looking models as well but this is a "North Electric".

Thanks, I know old Smith & Wessons well, but am brand new to vintage phones. Here's what it looked like when I got it:

The term "Galion" was probably started by Ron Knappen, along with "Fat Boy" for SC 1212, "3500" for WE 5302G, "201" for WE B1B, etc.

I'll nominate my North 541 series for Find of the  Month.  I picked it up at a local flea market for $12.00 on Sunday.

Nice burled walnut Number 2 wall phone bought at the North River Fleamarket for $40 today... No scratches, and needs minor buffing only. Definitely Museum quality. Tiny bit of latex paint spotting to remove along wall edge on one side (removed and buffed now). One of the nicest Burled Walnut Uniphones I have found..
