The first picture looks like wake up calls, assuming it's 7:15 AM.
Second picture seems like an odd place to put a telephone.

Probably didn't want to pay extra for a long cord.  Ma Bell used to charge extra for everything, even for phones that were not black, both for installation and monthly service charge.

Ya know what, cable and satellite installers are the same way.
They pull out this 6inch piece of cord and say this is all they gave me so it'll have to go on the floor
or we can move the desk or what ever one wishes to put the modem or piece of equipment on.
Cheap (@?!%#&!).
