AE 40 with Locking handset

Has anyone ever removed the locking metal handset adapter on an AE 40 and installed it on another. I found one that has damage to the bakelite and would like to switch it to a good AE40. Any clues. I don't want to damage another set. There is also a  plaque on it. I am done for the day and am looking for advice before I attack it tomorrow. Cracked right up the seam in the front to the dial...IT'S HEAVY!!...many thanks...Doug

It can be moved but the plungers must be moved also. They are a non standard length.

ISTR the plates as simply held on by the four screws.  Simply drill and tap in the new housing.

There were several versions of the plates, as discussed here:

It might be simpler to repair the housing cracks than to swap the parts!   ;)
