Title: Anyone know about Radio Shack RC tanks?
Post by: AL_as_needed on January 15, 2017, 08:44:42 PM
So like many great choices in life, I bid on an older radio shack rc tank on a whim. Well a week later and its on its way via fedex.

Been looking into this era of RC (70s-80s) and there is very little information out there, at least that I could tell. Does anyone have any experience with these as kids? Or does anyone here collect rc or vintage toys? Just curious about my new to me cold war era tank.

I remember looking at them at RC, when I was younger.

We had one when I was a kid. I don't really remember much about it. I don't think it was the best quality. It was pretty slow, and it had a normal remote with a vertical speed switch and a horizontal direction switch. It would have been better if it had a remote that was set up more like a tank with two speed controls for each side.

Well my tank arrived the other day and I have say, for being 47 years old its in really good shape. Yes it is a bit slow and cannot reverse, but its fun for slowly creeping up on the cats and flushing them out from under the bed.  8)

Pics to follow if interested.

Before phone collecting, I was into RC stuff, among other things. I have two RC 1/6th scale M3 Stuarts. We bought them when I was 4 or 5 years old, and since then, they have been discontinued. I think they were $100 when they were new, now they're around $600 in good shape, if you can find them.

I got them out of storage 5 years ago, and discovered mice had made homes in both! After cleaning and reassembling them, one was trashed inside, and the other still worked great! I decided to store them in the basement now, not the garage! ::)

I remember when my dad got his hands on a toy, he always had to find a way to tease the cat with it!
