Title: Western Electric Vacuum Tubes
Post by: Fabius on November 18, 2016, 11:14:07 AM
Unbelievable! It's amazing what audiophiles (usually in Asia) will pay for Western Electric audio stuff. I'm told there two tubes will go for thousands.

Yes it sure is something! I don't know how these people have the money to keep buying amps and tubes for this money! Who would pay a few thousand for a vacuum tube? Isn't there some risk for them to break during shipping?! I saw YouTube user Blueglow Electronics did a video the other day on a Western Electric tube amp that just the audio output transformer was worth a few thousand! Even the power transformer!

Is the sound and performance of these Western Electric 300B tubes that much better then modern production 300B tubes that cost about $164? And if so then is it thousands of dollars of better performance? Maybe it's also a status thing.
